Training

SILC offer a wide range of free specialist training for PAs and their employers (currently online due to lockdown/social distancing rules and regulations).

The following is a list of courses available from SILC:

Health and Wellbeing

TBC

This 1 day course is limited to a maximum of 8 attendees and will cover topics such as:

• What ‘Resilience’ is and why it matters
• How to develop your own resilience
• How to recognise the signs that pressure is causing a problem
• Develop strategies to deal with in-the-moment pressure
• Develop strategies to deal with long-term pressure
• Develop a positive outlook

Dementia and Dementia Care and Learning Disabilities

This 1 day course will cover topics such as:

  • What does dementia mean?
  • Myths and stereotypes
  • The main causes of dementia
  • Person centred qualities and skills
  • Communication skills
  • Keeping people safe

Autism Awareness

TBC

This 1 day course will cover topics such as: 

• What Autistic Spectrum Condition is
• How people with this condition are affected by day to day living
• An awareness of learning disability and mental health

Health and Safety Awareness for Personal Assistants

TBC

This 1 day course will cover topics such as:

  • Common hazards in the home/work
  • Slips, trips and falls
  • Basic moving and handling principles
  • COSHH
  • Fire safety
  • Infection control
  • Stress
  • Personal safety

Emergency First Aid at Work

TBC

This 1 day course will cover topics such as:

  • What is 'First Aid'?
  • Assessing the scene
  • Allergic reaction
  • Heart attacks and strokes
  • Severe bleeding
  • CPR
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Shock
  • AED (Automatic External Defibrillator)

Principles of Person-Centred Care, Privacy and Dignity

This 1 day course will cover topics such as:

  • Introducing PAs to the values that underpin Person Centred Care
  • Exploring the values of individuality, rights, choice, privacy, independence, dignity, respect and partnership
  • Assisting PA's to develop their understanding of how the principles of care should be reflected

Safeguarding Adults and Children

TBC

This 1 day course will cover topics such as:

  • Role of the PA
  • Legislation and policy
  • Concept and definition of abuse
  • Categories of abuse
  • Signs and symptoms of abusive behaviour
  • How to respond and report allegations of abuse
